Abergele was granted the status of a Fairtrade Town by the Fairtrade Foundation on 8th April 2010.

What is Fairtrade?
Products carrying the Fairtrade Mark meet internationally recognised Fairtrade criteria:

• A fair, minimum price for producers.
• No forced labour, child or adult.
• Fair wages and fair and safe working conditions.
• The right to join unions.
• A long term trading commitment without harming the environment.
• A fair price plus a premium payment to be invested for community development projects.

Fairtrade Committee Chairman, Kathy Woodward, presents Abergele Fairtrade Town renewal certificate to Mayor, Andrew Wood, watched by committee member, Cllr Sam Rowlands

signHow does a town become a Fairtrade Town?
Depending on the size of the town it must demonstrate that:
• The Council is committed to supporting Fairtrade.
• A minimum number of Retail and catering outlets sell a minimum number of Fairtrade
products.
• Fairtrade products are used by a number of workplaces and community organisations.

This is part of an on-going process and in order that Abergele maintains its Fairtrade Town status it must
increase the use of Fairtrade products during the year.

How can I help?
• By buying Fairtrade goods where possible and acceptable to you.
• By using Fairtrade goods at home or in your workplace.

Fairtrade products are available (sold or served) at:

Abergele Golf Club

Abergele Hospital League of Friends
